3D NexGen is an independent research platform dedicated to the science and engineering of next generation three dimensional technologies — from additive manufacturing and 3D metrology to digital twins of real world structures.

Our mission

We believe that the design, fabrication and inspection of physical structures is moving from a two dimensional, drawing based practice to a fully three dimensional and data driven one. Our mission is to document that transition, publish reliable technical material, and give researchers and engineers a common place to exchange results.

What we do

The platform brings together three kinds of work: original research notes written by our contributors, curated reviews of published literature, and practical engineering material such as test procedures, tolerance data and measurement methods. Everything published here is reviewed by at least one engineer before it goes online.

Who it is for

Researchers, structural and mechanical engineers, graduate students, laboratory staff and industry professionals working on additive manufacturing, reverse engineering, geometric inspection or simulation. If your work touches three dimensional data, this platform is meant for you.

Frequently asked questions

Researchers and engineers working on three dimensional design, fabrication or measurement. Contact us with a short outline of what you would like to publish.
Technical notes are reviewed internally by at least one engineer. Items marked as reviews or conference papers state their own review status on the entry page.
Yes, for teaching and non commercial research, with attribution to the note title and this site. For commercial reuse please write to us first.
We are a research platform and do not sell services. We can usually point you to a partner laboratory working in the relevant area.
